Does earning a salary mean I am exempt from overtime in California?
Answer
No. Salary alone does not make you exempt. To qualify as exempt from California overtime, you must earn at least twice the state minimum wage ($66,560/year in 2025) AND spend more than 50% of your time on exempt duties (managerial, administrative, or professional work). Many "salaried managers" are actually non-exempt and owed overtime.
